Workshop Journal / Process

How a commission moves from rough board to finished furniture.

This page is built like a field note from the shop: process first, service details beside it, and practical commission notes below.

Process Film

Seven shop moments, one finished piece.

The film illustrates the sequence clients rarely see: timber selection, layout, cutting, surface work, joinery, assembly, finishing, and final reveal.

Select Timber in the workshop
01

Select Timber

Boards are chosen for movement, figure, moisture, and how their grain will read across the finished form.

Measure + Cut in the workshop
02

Measure + Cut

Dimensions are marked from full-scale drawings, then broken down with room for final hand tuning.

Plane + Sand in the workshop
03

Plane + Sand

Surfaces are brought into plane, eased, and sanded until the wood has a clean tactile rhythm.

Joinery in the workshop
04

Joinery

Mortise-and-tenon, dovetail, and frame joinery are cut for strength before any finish hides the evidence.

Assembly in the workshop
05

Assembly

Each piece is dry fit, clamped, squared, and adjusted before the final glue-up.

Finish in the workshop
06

Finish

Oil and wax are built in thin passes to protect the surface while keeping the grain natural.

Reveal in the workshop
07

Reveal

The final piece is inspected in natural light, photographed, and prepared for installation.

Services

Commission paths for homes, studios, and hospitality spaces.

Workshop Note

Samples are never decorative.

Finish boards are made from the same species and cut as the commission so color, sheen, and edge detail can be approved before the full piece is assembled.

Client Note

Every proposal includes proportion drawings.

The goal is to settle scale early, especially for dining tables, desks, and cabinetry that must work with existing architecture.

Start a Commission

Share dimensions, photos, and the way the piece will be used.
